The South African Post Office’s plan to leave business rescue has run into opposition. In October 2026 MyBroadband reported that the Post Office Retirement Fund and the Medipos Medical Scheme, two closed funds that provide benefits to Post Office employees and pensioners, had filed notice to oppose the application to end the process.

What is being disputed

The business rescue practitioners applied to the Pretoria High Court on 12 June 2026, saying the rescue plan has been substantially implemented. The two funds are opposing over a dispute about a “top-up dividend”. According to the report, the Post Office says its lawyers and the practitioners are working towards a commercial settlement.

Where the Post Office stands

  • Revenue for the year to 31 March 2026 was reported at about R1.54 billion.
  • The loss for the year was much smaller than the year before, although reported figures vary.
  • Business Day described the organisation in August 2026 as still in “high care”, with its funding needs unresolved.

What it means for you

Nothing changes for postal codes. Codes belong to delivery areas, not to the company’s legal status, so every code on ZarPostalCodes stays the same. Post Office branches and PO Boxes continue to operate while the court process runs. If you rent a PO Box, keep using its PO Box code; if you send parcels, use the street code of the delivery address.
